What I wore to work - grey pants and jewels

I've mostly been wearing dresses for work lately. Part of the reason is that I don't think my current work pants are very flattering. I'm blaming (pregnancy, postpartum, weaning) x 2 for that! I think I need to bite the bullet and get some more basics that actually fit.

Today's outfit is grey pants and shirt by Country Road, red shoes and a multicolour stone long necklace. I tend to wear a basic outfit and then add (hopefully) a bit of spark with accessories and shoes. I love my colour and I love patterns and detail so I try to wear some (all) of each, each day. I think I nailed the boring basics today. Spark and interest? Not so much.

Shoes : Cotton On
Necklace: Absolutely no idea, it's old, old, old.

I need to do workwear better. I can't seem to carry it off without looking schlumpy. Exhibit A, above. My workplace doesn't require dressy ( clearly, lol) so I have a fair amount of leeway. I think I need to Pinterest and shop. That will be a hardship! Any suggestions?

A dress for the festive season

I like to wear a dress on Christmas Day. We usually walk that line between fancy and casual for Christmas. I would say Smart Casual but that doesn't really clarify things at all! It's a dress code I loathe because I never know what it means and whenever I go to something that is "smart casual" there is always such a range of dress. Which shouldn't really matter, I guess, but for some reason it does.

So Christmas Day. Not too casual. Not too fancy. It needs to be weather adaptable. Christmas Day can be bloody hot. But it might not be. And it needs to be a decent length. This is probably the trickiest one. So many dresses, I hold them up and they end mid thigh. I'm not 20 anymore. So even though I probably have the legs to carry them off, I don't want to spend the day worrying that I will flash my undies to my nearest and dearest.

Some of the options I have been weighing up...

I like the print on this one but the fit could either be very, very good or very, very bad ( and boxy)

I love the cut and especially love the colour. I can't handle the white shoes though. Clearly I am unfashionable, but they are just the worst! I would pair it with something less Nana orthopedic shoe, either a flat sandal or chunky sandal with a heel.

This one I am quite intrigued by. I saw it in store the other week and it was more of a pale pink background and the print seemed less leaf like in person, compared to the website images. Or maybe I wasn't paying much attention and have got it all arse about. It happens.

This is really pretty. I like pretty. I don't usually do blues in clothing (unless it's navy or a stripe) but I like this. Again I really dislike the shoes.  Black and mildly clunky. Not what I would put with a pretty dress.

This one looks comfortable. That's important. Also, I love a stripe. I think I would have to see how this one looks on. Could go either way I fear.

This last one is right up my alley... except for the price and I think it might be a tad short. Plus it's hand wash and shouldn't go in the machine. Which means it either would never get worn because it was in the laundry waiting to be washed or I'd chance it and chuck it in the machine and it would then be so small that any movement - sudden or not - would result in an undies baring incident.

So far the target stripe dress and the country Road Hibiscus dress are my top options. I think I can safely add "must be a pattern" to my checklist as I have just realised that all my options feature a print. I also think that I need to hit the shops and try some dresses on. That will be fun with an almost 2 year old and a 3 year old in tow....

What do you wear for Christmas Day? I need ideas!

Time to think Spring Fashions with Country Road

Is spring in the air? This time of you is always tough, sartorially.

Do I wear boots, scarf and coat or do I wear a dress with bare legs? I tackle all the big issues here!

The method to my particular madness is to wear the boots and plan (dream!) of spring.
Whilst Spring may not be evident outside, it is evident in the shops. So I will eek a few more wears out of the winter lovelies while I can and strategise for when it actually does warm up outside.

Country Road is always a favourite. I sometimes struggle with the hemlines, I sometimes struggle with the colour palette ( fluoro anyone? anyone?) but I always come back for the classics. It's what they do brilliantly. Classic items that stand the test of time.

Black cigarette pants, crisp T shirts, tailored jackets. Nothing groundbreaking but you can't have an entire wardrobe of "look at me!" pieces or you risk looking like a dog's breakfast! Can't have that!

The new season's pieces have a strong monochrome look with just splashes of muted colour to break up the black and white. Lovely, luscious, sophisticated.

Here's how I would wear it:

one   two   three   four   five   six   seven

Either the T Shirt or the ruffle top would look fabulous with the simple look of the pants. The biker jacket would be perfect for this time of year and I love the look of black and navy together.

To this I would add some beautiful jewellery in the form of a chunky metallic watch and a mix of bracelets.

How are you planning to "wear" spring? Are you even thinking of Spring yet  or are you enjoying the last days of cooler weather?
