What I wore to work - Comfy black dress

That sounds so appealing, doesn't it?! Visions of long black sacks dancing in my head. Which is probably not to far off. The black dress in question is a comfortable black jersey, knee length dress.

As the post title suggests, the dress is super comfortable. It's jersey so it drapes and moves really well. The elbow length sleeves are good for most of the year, it's really only on hot days that I can't wear it. Best of all ? It was cheap, really cheap. I bought it at the supermarket while I was doing the groceries one day. Lol. That's my kind of shopping - cheap and at no effort to myself. I bought it last year so it is no longer available but here are some similar options.

I paired it with a long mixed pearl and crystal necklace. I have no idea where I got it. In fact I would have sworn black and blue that it wasn't mine if it hadn't been with my jewellery.

The shoes are Steve Madden . Zebra print, burgundy trim. Just the thing to set of a plain dress.

I love a bargain for work. How about you?

This week in running - Happy Birthday Me!

Weekly Mileage: 37 km + hills

This week just gone was my birthday week. Why celebrate a day when you can scam a whole week ?? Actually the celebrations were somewhat low key - that's what happens when you have young kids! Low key but lovely was the order of the day.

I started the day with a run - as you do. Kinda hot but it felt ok. I haven't been running well lately. I have been slow and it has felt like a chore. But this run felt ok. Not great, but ok. I will take ok. Ok is the first step to great!

Just the usual runs this week. I need to take the kids in the car and run by the beach or harbour again. I'm sure the scenery will make me run faster. Or not.

I am still experimenting with Tabata weights workouts. And they are still kicking my butt. The pushup sequence is just saaaaad.

Most importantly this week, I took delivery of this red hot baby.

Yep, parkrun 50 shirt! It's  a really great shirt and quite comfortable. I ran on Saturday in it. Bit of a mistake as it was as hot as Hades ( I was sweating before the start) and I think it is singlet weather from here on in. But I earnt that shirt I am darn well going to wear it! No PB but I was happy with my time in the heat.

What I wore to work - floral blue wrap dress

I seem to have been wearing predominately dresses lately.  I have always worn dresses a lot but the last few weeks have been somewhat prolific. Since having children my shape is not the same (derr) and sometimes pants seem to highlight the fact. Too big in some parts, too small in others. You would think that at 20 months postpartum I would have it sorted. Apparently not.

I love wearing this dress. It's comfortable, looks ok and reasonably flattering. On slightly cooler days I layer a Kelly green elbow length cardigan on top.

The print is a white floral on dark blue background in a slightly stretch viscose jersey fabric.

The shoes are a wedge peep toe. Comfortable for work, add a heel to a look and fairly neutral. The boring work horse of your wardrobe that make so many other combinations possible.

The dress was from Big W, many years ago.
This Missoni for Target wrap dress ($79) is a similar feel in black and white.

This dress from Target  ($20) is also a similar option.

I personally prefer the Missoni option above. I think it would be quite flattering on.

What are you wearing for work? Are dresses a staple for you as well?

This week in running - back in the groove

Let's celebrate running in shorts again! Love summer

Weekly kms: 37 km + hills

This week has been all about getting back into the swing of things after our time away. My long run was 15 km. It was hot, it wasn't especially fast but I got it done. Hills were after work on Monday. The aim is to consolidate my repeats and build up my strength so that I am doing 7 or 8 quality repeats. I'm not there yet but that is the goal.

The other change this week is that I have started doing Tabata style strength workouts. 20 seconds strength, 10 seconds rest for 8 cycles. So hard! I made the mistake of having way too heavy a weight for my reps... and paid the price! The second time I did it I scaled back the weight and it was much more successful. The pushup sets are still a work in progress!

What I wore to work - Red and blue all over.

Getting ready for work. Does it ever get any easier? I would love to be one of those women that has a concise capsule wardrobe that all goes together effortlessly to produce a chic, streamlined look. I am too much of a magpie, always collecting shiny, pretty things. That may or may not go with all the other shiny, pretty things I have collected. It's a problem.

Today I felt like a dress. I wear dresses a lot. They're easy. Dress on. Bam. Outfit done! I sometimes find hemlines difficult - I'm tall and don't want to show too much leg at work. As an aside I find it strange when retailers aimed at my demographic ( 30+, work in a business casual environment) have "work" type dresses and skirts that finish mid thigh. Who is wearing them??

Anyway, back to the outfit. Target, jersey fabric, bought it some time ago. Nothing spectacular but it feels comfortable, looks nice.

Dress: Target (last year). Similar here (Target - linen rather than jersey - Linen Boating Dress $49 )or here (Metalicus - Primrose Tank dress $129)
Shoes: Cotton On. No longer available but have other colour Danseur flat for $14.95.

The necklace is Lovisa. Their website is a bit of a disaster and they don't seem to have online sales or product info. Or at least not in an obviously visible spot! Anyway the necklace is a bit of fun that grubby little hands can grab hold of without me having a heart attack!

That is What I Wear to Work. What about you? I would love ideas for something fresh and different!

This week in running - It's daylight savings time!

Weekly mileage : 35 ish.

Running this week has been quite different.! We are on holiday and I have been blessed to have run in some amazing places.  The scenery has quite taken my breath away.

In terms of running I am kinda plodding but the joy and happiness I have gained from running this week has been immense. It I shard to feel anything but exhilarated when this is the view.

We also had the wonderful experience of doing some parkrun tourism. We tackled the Dunedin parkrun - and came off second best! It has a massive hill, that you go up twice. I totally misjudged it and totally cracked it the first time up. Second time was not quite so sad and tragic. The view from the top was worth it though. The course winds through the botanic gardens and is a great run. Everyone was absolutely lovely and helped make it a great morning. Thankyou Dunedin parkrun!
